Tree Steward Update

posted May 31, 2014, 11:44 AM by Fina Santa-Maria

The FHSNA Tree Steward Committee works with area residents and TreeBaltimore, a program of the City’s Department of Recreation and Parks, to increase the number of healthy trees in our neighborhood.  Trees help bring beauty, shade and fresh air to our patch of the city.  The Tree Steward committee helps to coordinate new tree plantings and the removal of dead trees, as well as help care for existing trees.

During the winter and spring, the City cut down a number of dead trees and planted several new ones.  There are still others on our “wish list,” so we hope for more cutting and planting this fall.

If you know of a dead tree that should be removed, a space where a new tree is needed (either an empty pit or vacant sidewalk) or have any questions about trees, please contact us.  And of course, we are always in need of volunteers, so contact us if you can help!

For those of you with a tree out front, please spread some mulch around it to protect its roots (being sure to keep it 1 inch away from the tree bark itself), and keep trash and weeds out.  And for those of you with dogs, please keep them away from the trees.
