Area 19 Petition to Change Hours

posted May 24, 2013, 2:41 PM by Fina Santa-Maria

We are still working with the Parking Authority to get a complete and accurate list of all of the legal residences in Area 19.  When that list has been reviewed and verified we will begin the process of trying to approve a petition to change the posted restricted parking hours for Area 19.

The process will require going door to door to solicit signatures from at least 60% of the eligible Area 19 households.  The petition will require the signature of only one individual per legal residence.

The petition seeks to change the restricted hours in Area 19 to be consistent with the hours currently posted in the adjacent Areas 9 and 30.  If approved, the change is intended to discourage parking by non-residents during peak hours and to make enforcement easier and more effective.

Look for more announcements in the coming weeks and be prepared to answer that knock on your door.

The proposed hours and new signs would read as shown at right except of course they would state Area #19 and not Area #9. Currently vehicles can park in Area 19 without a permit (decal or visitor pass) for up to 2 hours between the hours of 7 am to midnight.  Under the proposed new hours vehicles could only park for 2 hours without a permit from 7 am to 6 pm on Mon-Sat and 7 am to 2 pm on Sunday.  At all other times it is zero hour parking and all vehicles must display an Area 19 permit or they can be ticketed on the spot.
