Calling all aspiring authors, ages 8-12! The fall session of the Baltimore Young Writers' Group will focus on the art of the short story. You'll read short stories and do creative exercises to develop your own characters, plot, setting, and dialogue. By the end of the five weeks, you'll have written your own complete, polished short story for our class anthology.

About the instructor: Elissa Brent Weissman is the author of three novels for 8-12-year olds. Nerd Camp was featured as a best summer novel for kids in The Washington Post, and Standing for Socks is now available through Scholastic Book Club/Fair. Named one of Maryland's Best Writers by CBS Baltimore, Elissa has taught creative writing at the University of Baltimore, Towson University, the Johns Hopkins Odyssey Program, and the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
