Mission

The Tree Stewards Committee works to restore, enhance, and protect the tree canopy in Federal Hill South by partnering with the City of Baltimore and nonprofit organizations to plant new trees, to care for existing foliage, and to educate residents about the environmental, economic, and health benefits of tree cover.

Activities

In the past two years, the Tree Stewards Committee and its volunteers have helped plant 20 new trees throughout the Federal Hill South neighborhood. Tree Stewards volunteers also care for existing trees by regularly weeding, mulching, and pruning. In addition, the committee has completed a survey of all trees in the neighborhood to compile a comprehensive database

Upcoming Events (as of May, 2007)

The Tree Stewards Committee has received a grant from the Parks & People Foundation to plant as many as a dozen new trees this fall along Fort Avenueand elsewhere in the neighborhood. Please check out this site, and the FHSNA newsletter, for future updates about this project.

Request a Tree

The committee works with interested neighbors and the City's Forestry Division to identify sites and arrange for plantings. For more information about requesting a tree, please review SoYouWantATree.pdf. Residents must fill out the City's tree-planting agreement (TreePlantingAgreement.doc).
