Federal Hill Runners is a group of recreational and competitive runners who run together in Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland. We are an urban running club, based minutes from the Inner Harbor. We get together to run...for fitness...to meet people...to keep our streets safe...to keep each other safe...to learn about running...to run in races together...to learn new places to run...to run for fun. We welcome all runners and walkers of all abilities and experiences: neighbors, downtown workers, visitors to Baltimore and runners from other neighborhoods are part of our group.
We have a weekly group run time known as The Monday Main Event. This run time is every Monday at 6:30pm. We meet at Federal Hill Fitness (a gym and fitness studio) at 39 E. Cross Street next to Cross Street Market. We have introductions and a review of the run course 5-10 minutes prior to our prompt 6:30 start - so if you are new to the group, plan to arrive a bit earlier. Note you do NOT have to be a member of Federal Hill Fitness to run with our group, although we encourage you to check out this great neighborhood fitness center! Check them out at www.fhfitness.com. If you are a member of Federal Hill Fitness expand your fitness program and come run with us! .
Susan Kim is our Director of Membership, and she remembers what it was like to show up for her first group run: it can be a bit intimidating. Now with a couple of marathons, 5Ks and numerous other races under her belt, Susan wants you to reach your goals too. We run in pretty much any type of weather. Runs are cancelled only when there are high winds such that street debris, signs, or roofing shingles start flying, and of course, when there is lightning. To confirm if a run is still on contact

We have two standard routes that we follow depending on winter or summer seasons. Currently we are doing our summer run course which runs through the neighborhood to Fort McHenry and return to Federal Hill Fitness. We do the same run course every Monday so that all runners become comfortable with the route and may set new goals each week. When it becomes colder and dark in the winter we switch to our Inner
Harbor route. Our courses cater to all levels and distances. They are also designed to take in long stretches to reach your stride, meander through parks, and explore different parts of the neighborhood. We currently have 7-minute milers to 11-minute milers, and also walkers. Our current summer course is:
- Start at Federal Hill Fitness, 39 E. Cross Street.
- As if exiting the gym, turn Right towards Light Street
- Left Light Street
- Right Warren Ave
- Run past Federal Hill Park or do a loop around the park
- Right along Park to end of Warren and Right down stairs
- Veer Left Grindall
- Right Covington
- Left Cross Street
- Right Key Highway
- Right Webster
- Left E. Fort
- Stay E. Fort to Ft McHenry
- Run around Fort and then back to E. Fort Ave
- Left Webster
- Right Randall
- Left Covington and around Riverside Park
- Left Randall
- Right Charles
- Right E. Cross Street
- Back to Federal Hill Fitness – have a cold one!
Runners can return to Federal Hill Fitness at a number of turn-off locations along the course, to run a shorter loop as desired. Our current course if done in full is approximately 5.5 miles. We also have a key / clothing bag that you can store items in during the run. This is stored behind the gym reception desk while we are running. Water is also provided after each run.
We are a city running group and therefore be smart when running through our busy urban neighborhood. Look after yourself and your fellow runners.
- Find a buddy to run with: if you see someone running alone join them.
- When running through parks run with the group.
- Watch for uneven sidewalks.
- Wear reflective clothing.
- Respect the traffic rules at intersections and vehicles: you are strong, but cars are stronger.
- Don’t leave water bottles, power bar wrappers, or gu packets behind. Respect the environment, yourself, and your neighbors.
Typically after our run we head to a local restaurant for a good meal. Federal Hill boasts many venues to choose from some offering Monday night ½ price specials. Listen in at the run start to find out where the group will be socializing after each run.
